Boat goes up in flames on Lake Texoma

DENISON, TX -- Three people were taken to a local hospital this afternoon after a boat exploded on Lake Texoma.

Just before 2:30 Saturday afternoon, many lakegoers say they heard a blast and you could see black smoke from miles away.

The fire happened happened at Grandpappy Point Marina in Denison.

Joe Custer with the Army Corp of Engineers said the boat ignited at the gas pump. The boat was pulled away from the dock quickly to avoid catching anything else on fire.

Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A dog on the boat was also injured.

Custer says he doesn't believe any fuel is in the lake.

Witnesses say they heard a big blast and were evacuated immediately.

"They had us empty or evacuate everything because they say the ramp is hooked up to the fuel supply over there, and it was dangerous. So, everybody there evacuated and put everybody out here on the top which was a safe area," witness Dhwanish Italia said.

Denison and Preston fire departments were able to put the fire out near a boat ramp.
