Body found in construction hole in Ardmore

ARDMORE, OK -- Kelly Skaggs was asleep early Wednesday morning when his mother woke him up saying police had found a body outside their home.

"They were like doing tests and stuff all around here, and whenever they pulled out the body, it was crazy," said Skaggs.

Ardmore Deputy Police Chief, Eric Hamblin, says just before 8 AM, construction crews working on underground sewage pipes in the 1100 block of North West and Burch Street, found the dead man.

Dee Debord lives on Burch Street and also saw police recover the body.

"It's sad," said Debord. "It's a bad deal...something bad happened, so I don't know. Something I wouldn't want someone else to see and I don't want to see it again, and hopefully they get to the bottom of it."

Residents were shocked something like this happened in their neighborhood. Debord has been living on Burch Street for over 30 years, and he says he's never seen anything like this.

"It's definitely kind of odd," Debord said. "That stuff doesn't happen around here."

Resident Amber McLain said,"It's pretty shocking to see something like that happen right by my house pretty much, and I'm just wondering if that person is someone that we recognize, and so that would make it even more shocking."

Debord says it's disconcerting to know a body was found not far from the home, and whether the man's death was suspicious or not, he plans to be more aware of his surroundings.

"As I'm up and doing things during the day, yes I'll be more aware," said Debord. "And I hope everyone else will too."

Hamblin says the case is still under investigation.
