Bonham students bury time capsule under new turf field

BONHAM, TX -- Officials say the new turf at Warrior Stadium in Bonham will be finished in time for high school graduation in May. And while many memories will be created on the field, one group of students will be remembered for many years to come.

While this year's Bonham high school senior athletes won't get to play on the new turf field that's being put in for next school year, they still got the chance to leave one memory on the field.

"I'm glad I got the chance to play here and I spent my whole life in Bonham, so I'm glad I got to be remembered by something other than just playing sports here so I get to leave a little bit of legacy here," said graduating senior quarterback, Dra Smith.

Smith is one of the six student athletes who gathered out at the 50-yard-line of Warrior Stadium Friday to bury a special keepsake under the new field before crews finish their work.

The group decided to bury a Bonham high school jersey, signed by every senior student athlete graduating this year.

High School Principal, Dave Ketcher, says this is a special way to commemorate those seniors.

"This is a great deal for them because they've had a lot of success this year, academically and athletically," Ketcher said. "It just closes the door or chapter on their book."

And while soccer captain, Daniel Loredo, is not finished with his high school career just yet, he's happy to be part of something longlasting at Bonham High School.

"You know it's wonderful, having a part of us in there," Loredo said.

Officials say the time capsule will remain buried for the duration of this turf field.
