LAMAR COUNTY, TX-- A group met with local residents to determine a broadband internet plan for Lamar County and the East Texas Region.
Two dozen citizens listened to Connected Texas, a group that is developing a broadband initiative plan to provide internet to everyone in East Texas.
Lamar County is the first county in the ArkTex Council of Governments to generate a local blueprint for the broadband plan. Connected Texas hopes to develop a plan for all 23 counties in the ArkTex and East Texas COG's.
"Ultimately the idea is to have universal broadband internet service to every child that gets off the school bus," said Ron Turner with Connected Texas.
Another meeting in Lamar County will be held in the next few weeks. An exact date has not been set.
