PARIS, Texas - Paris police say this years watch your car month campaign has more than exceeded their expectations.
According to police car burglaries and thefts have gone down 36-percent from last year and down 55-percent compared to last July.
Even though the numbers are down Detective Shane Stone says there are many things people can do to prevent auto theft from happening to them.
"Make sure you lock your car and try to park in a lighted area if possible, but that's not always possible." said Stone. "Then hide your things, the majority of these cars broken into are not locked."
With the month ending soon police are still urging motorists to be cautious when leaving their vehicles unattended.
