CARTER COUNTY, OK -- Investigators have identified a suspected scammer who had been posing as a Carter County Sheriff's deputy.
Sheriff Milton Anthony says the suspect is a current inmate at a prison in the state of Georgia.
Anthony says they had received multiple reports over the past few days of the suspect calling local residents, claiming to be a deputy and telling them to buy a Green Dot card to send money or else he'd get a warrant for their arrest.
Sheriff Anthony said, "At this time we have turned the investigation over to the U.S. Marshals there and they're conducting their end of the investigation."
Sheriff Anthony says the suspected inmate was making the same type of calls to people in multiple states.
