CELESTE, TX -- Investigators say Celeste's Police Chief, indicted for child sex crimes, committed suicide just one day before his pretrial hearing.

Authorities say Chief Roger Mueller III died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home last night.

Mueller was transported by ambulance to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville but died a short time later.

He was scheduled to appear for a hearing Tuesday for charges of indecency with a child under the age of 17 by sexual contact in June of 20-12 and May 2013.

The investigation had been turned over to the Texas Rangers.
