ADA, OK -- Women and men from the Chickasaw Nation and the Ada community came out to listen to some of the tribe’s female leaders at the Dynamic Women’s Conference and Forum Thursday.
The Chickasaw Nation partnered up with East Central University to host the 5th annual conference at McSwain Theater in Ada.
Those who attended listened to Chickasaw women talk about a variety of topics including the women’s role in the tribe, as well as her role in society.
Chickasaw Nation Arts and Humanities Executive Officer, Lona Barrick, said the conference is not only empowering, but very informative for all women.
"It’s important for us to talk about not only our history, heritage, and culture that we have which helps to inspire us and empower us," said Barrick. "But also it gives us those tools to face some of the problems we face in today’s society."
The conference also included an art exhibit featuring many female artists from the Chickasaw Nation.
