Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant confirms expansion

DURANT, OK -- Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant is adding a second tower that will stand more than 20 stories high.

"That will be going up actually to the north of the tower that's in place right now," Durant Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Janet Reed said.

Phase II of Choctaw Casino will add more than 500 new jobs to the Durant workforce, along with hundreds of hotel rooms, a conference center, a bowling alley, a movie theater and an event center.

"The top floor, I'm understanding, will be a complete full-line spa with a pool, and then a laser zone for the kids, and that's going to be on the south end of the property," Reed said.

The casino also has plans to upgrade its existing Oasis hotel pool, renovate its food court and remodel the south casino.

"It's going to be a one stop shop, so to speak, because they'll have the convention area, plus a great line of eateries within the facility, then, of course, the entertainment, as well," Reed said.

Choctaw Casino Resort representatives released this statement, "The rumors are true -- Durant Resort is expanding and bringing more jobs to the community."

An official media announcement will come in the next few weeks.

Reed says the hotel and casino has given Durant's economy a major boost and now she's excited to see how this expansion will benefit the entire region.

"Be a part of it! Look at it as it goes up. Get excited with the community and watch our region grow," Reed said.

Construction is set to begin August 1st.
