PARIS, TX-- The city of Paris has a new Public Works Director, a position that has been vacant for over a year.

Earlier this year the city council instructed city manager John Godwin to hire a new director. The city council voted five to one, approving the hiring of Jerry McDaniel.

McDaniel currently works for the city of Greenville as an Engineering Superintendent. Godwin says McDaniel is bringing many years of working experience to the city.

McDaniel says he's excited to start this new chapter in his life.

"I like Paris and I like the people," said McDaniel. "I think this is going to be a very challenging job and hopefully I can make some improvements and just move forward and create a team environment."

City Manager John Godwin and other division managers have taken on the additional duties while the position had been vacant.

McDaniel starts June 23rd.
