Debra St. Clair and her family were together and safe last Wednesday night, after her daughter bravely fought off an intruder.

But the already traumatized family had to spend the night with an unsecured back door.

That's when Bryan Co. Undersheriff Ken Golden stepped in to help.

"I had talked to Debra St. Clair a few days after the incident, and she had told me that her daughter hadn't slept good that night, he said. "They were worried about the backdoor and she had a real rough night."

Golden made a few phone calls looking for people willing to donate materials to fix the backdoor. It wasn't long before he found a few generous Texomans.

"I talked to Mike Ridgway, and he said just tell them not to worry about it, we'll take care of it," Golden said.

Ridgway is the owner of Durant True Value Lumber Co. He donated materials to help fix the backdoor.

"I got a call from Ken Golden asking if we could help them on a project," he said. "And he explained the situation of the project, and I said absolutely."

Ridgway said he's gracious they were asked to help out.

"They are part of our community. And that's just part of being part of Texoma," he said. Part of being in Oklahoma and our community, and how we try to help each other."

As for Ridgway, Golden said he just met him Wednesday - but he's already made a friend.

"I tell you what, he's one of the people I believe anybody can count on for anything," Golden said. "He's just an awesome guy."

The Choctaw Nation sent workers to do the carpentry work, Golden said.
