Country star Randy Travis arrested in Grayson Co.

SHERMAN, TX - Country singer Randy Travis has been charged with driving while intoxicated near his Tioga home.

Texas DPS says around 11:30 last night they responded to a one vehicle crash on FM 922 west of Tioga in Grayson County, where the entertainer lives. A black 1998 Pontiac Trans Am, registered to Randy Travis, 53, of Tioga, had driven off of the north side of the road, striking several barricades in a construction zone.

Travis, the only occupant in the vehicle, showed signs of intoxication, and was arrested for DWI. Travis refused all sobriety tests. A search warrant was obtained and a blood specimen was taken. The test results are pending.

Travis also made threats against Texas Highway Patrol troopers, resulting in an additional charge of Retaliation. Grayson County Sheriff's Sgt. Rickey Wheeler says Travis also faces a charge of retaliation or obstruction. Travis was booked into the Grayson County Jail for both charges.

Travis bonded out of the Grayson County Jail on Wednesday morning wearing a paper suit. Troopers said Travis was lying in the road naked when they arrived.

A Travis representative did not immediately reply to a message Wednesday from The Associated Press.

Travis in February was charged with public intoxication after being spotted in a vehicle parked in front of a church in Sanger, about 20 miles from Tioga.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
