DWI charge filed against Randy Travis in Grayson Co. from Aug. arrest

SHERMAN, TX - Country music superstar Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated Wednesday in Grayson County, stemming from his August 2012 arrest when troopers found him drunk and naked near his vehicle on a farm-to-market road near Tioga.

Travis was arrested back in August for DWI and retaliation. Troopers that arrested Travis say he threatened them after they found him drunk and naked near his 1998 Pontiac Trans Am on FM 922 west of Tioga.

Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown says prosecutors are still investigating the retaliation charge.

Texas DPS says Travis's Trans Am had driven off the north side of the road, striking several barricades in a construction zone.

Travis refused all sobriety tests upon arrest. A search warrant was obtained and a blood specimen was taken. Test results have not yet been released by the Grayson County District Attorney's Office.

Travis was booked into the Grayson County Jail the night of his arrest and bonded out of jail the next morning.

Travis's attorney, John Nix, says Travis has been doing well since the incident and would like to get all of this behind him.

"His emotional state is exceptionally bright," Nix said.

Brown says Travis had a blood-alcohol content of greater than 0.15, making the charge a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

A preliminary hearing will be scheduled in the next few days.
