Dec. hearing set for McAlester police officer

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - A McAlester police officer is due in court next month after he was charged with using a stun gun on a handcuffed woman.

Officer Sterling Lee Taylor-Santino has pleaded not guilty to felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The McAlester News-Capital reports (http://is.gd/DmDUHP ) that Taylor-Santino is due in court Dec. 14.

Surveillance video obtained by the newspaper shows Taylor-Santino using a stun gun on 28-year-old Nakina Williams on June 24 at the Pittsburg County jail. The video shows Williams appearing to spit at Taylor-Santino, who then uses a stun gun on Williams.

Williams received a 10-year suspended sentence for felony assault and battery on a police officer.

Taylor-Santino declined to comment. A former colleague, Cheryl Kelley, says the charges are unjustified and that Taylor-Santino is a fair officer.
