DENISON, TX -- A new hotel in Denison is nearing completion but there are still some areas that need to be finished.
Construction continues on the new Hilton Garden Inn off Highway 75 and 691 across from Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
General Manager Norman Marks says the hotel hopes to become the county's premiere destination for business travelers.
"We're going to provide service to the local community, and to regional, corporate and associations and meeting planners," said Marks.
The hotel will house 130 rooms for guests, several meeting rooms and the new Texoma Event Center next door.
"We have 20,000 square feet of useable event space, which includes a 10,300 square foot ball room," said Marks.
Marks says the project will not only bring tenants to the hotel, but could create between 50 and 75 new jobs as well.
"This could be really big for Denison," said Chamber of Commerce president Anna Mckinney.
Chamber of Commerce president Anna Mckinney says the hotel could provide a large economic boost for the city; in tourism dollars and attracting people to Denison.
"We think this will make a lot of difference. This will call for more housing. It will add new people to our community so this is great," said Mckinney.
Tuesday, Denison's planning and zoning board approved re-zoning of the hotel property to allow the event center to sell alcohol. The city council will vote on that September 2nd.
The hotel will begin hiring in early October and the opening is slated for November 19th.
"Anybody that needs a place to sleep, eat and meet; that's what we are offering to this region and community," said Marks.
