Denison PD: suspects tie-up clerk, rob Best Western

DENISON, Texas -- Police say the Best Western off of U.S. 75 in Denison was robbed around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Police are looking for two men after they fled the hotel with an unknown amount of money, according Lt. Mike Eppler of the Denison Police Department.

The two men reportedly confronted the man working behind the Best Western front desk with a stun gun early in the morning.

The men jumped over the counter and proceeded to tie-up the employee. Then they put the man in a nearby room and attempt to break into the hotel safe.

The suspects were unsuccessful with the safe, but still fled the hotel with some cash from the front register.

The employee was uninjured, but was said to be shaken up by the incident.

Police say they have received a few leads and tips about the men, but won't share any further details. Lt. Eppler said police will likely share more details at a later point.

The hotel is equipped with cameras and investigators will likely use the recovered footage during the investigation, Eppler said.

Eppler said the Best Western employee did the right thing by complying with the suspects.

"Anytime that a person is faced with a situation like this no matter what business or if it's just an individual, give them what they want," he said. "If they're wanting money or something, we encourage everybody -- let them have it. It's not worth risking your life over it."

News 12 tried to contact with the manager of the Best Western, but was told he is "leaving the country" today by an employee at the front desk.

The same hotel was robbed last year by three men around 9:45 p.m. on August 12.

In a similar act, three men with a gun ordered the front desk employee to go into a bathroom and not come out until they had left. The men took successfully took the safe.

Updates will be posted to this story as they become available.
