Denison Police investigate child's death

DENISON, TX - Denison Police say they are investigating the death of a three-year-old child last week.

Police Chief Jay Burch says officers were called to Texoma Medical Center Wednesday evening when the girl was being treated for serious injuries.

"TMC staff members called police because they allegedly believed the injuries to the child were inconsistent with explanation given by family members and/or caretakers as to how the injuries occurred to the child. The child had originally been transported to TMC by Denison Fire Department EMS from a residence at Perrin Estates in Denison," Burch said in a press release issued this morning.

"The injuries to the child were of such a critical nature that she was soon flown to Dallas Children's Hospital Thursday evening for surgery and/or other treatment. The child's condition worsened Thursday and she died of her injuries Thursday evening (November 29). Police investigators were notified of the death about 9:30 p.m. Thursday."

Police are investigating the case and are currently awaiting the autopsy report from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office. Burch says there are multiple persons of interest at this point in their investigation. The Grayson County District Attorney's Office has been notified and is being consulted with on the case as well.

"The Denison Police Department is utilizing all of our investigators and resources to investigate this case. No arrest(s) or charges have been filed as yet," the release states.

"The case is slowly unfolding so there is no further information to release at this time."
