GUNTER, TX -- A Denison man is in critical condition after he crashed his semi in Gunter Tuesday afternoon.
Gunter police says just after 2 p.m. a man in his forties was driving this semi southbound on highway 289 near Savage Road, when for unknown reasons he crossed into the northbound lane -- coming to a stop in the trees.
Authorities say he was flown to a Dallas hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No one else was involved. Witnesses tell police the driver never slowed down
"The trees are actually what stopped him. The brakes were never applied it looks like. It looks like the trees stopped him but the mud is what slowed him down," Gunter police Chief Bryce Kennedy said.
Both lanes on 289 were shut down for about 45 mins. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
