DENISON, TX -- Residents rolled up their sleeves for the Police Department blood drive Thursday.

Lt. Mike Eppler said it's the first time the department has independently sponsored a blood drive.

The Department was happy with the turnout, Eppler said.

The Texoma Regional Blood Center said they collected more than 20 units.

The Department hopes to host another blood drive in the future, Eppler said.

"I'm personally very fond of blood drives. I've given a lot of blood, I have a very rare type of blood. So I think it's great when people can come out and give the gift of life," he said.

The Blood Center said their next drive is at Ector High School Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
