Denison police teach G.R.E.A.T for 19 years

DENISON, TX -- Denison police are making their presence known on campus while teaching students valuable life lessons.

Seventh grade students at B. McDaniel Middle School are taking part in Gang Resistance Education and Training. For the past 19 years, the so called GREAT program has taught kids how to avoid delinquent behavior and violence and how to solve conflicts.

"My friends and I we get into fights in middle school and it's kind of cleared that up some," student Katy Schneider said.

"Things that we all had to learn the hard way through trial and error we're actually teaching these kids. Hopefully they'll get a head start on making better decisions," GREAT Instructor Mark Hilliard said.

The students will graduate from the program in May.
