Deputy honored for capturing alleged bank robber

LOVE COUNTY, OK-- Some local lawmakers surprised a Love County deputy with an award for his work in nabbing a fleeing bank robbery suspect.

An accused bank robber who ran from authorities in texas proved to be no match for veteran Love County Deputy, Harvey Stewart.

"He jumped out and I jumped out and stopped him and got him handcuffed. He admitted that he did it. He said, 'Oh I'm caught," Stewart, said.

Thanks to Stewart, 38-year-old, Lynn McMorris, is now behind bars.

Authorities say on June 13th McMorris stole over $4,000 from the American National bank in Gainesville and took off northbound on I-35 in a stolen getaway car.

"I got out on the interstate and set up on 14 and Sheriff Russell went down south on 77 in case he went that way and I hadn't been there 3 minutes when he came by and I recognized him," Stewart said.

To honor Stewart's work in locking up the alleged bank robber, two local lawmakers awarded him with a legislative citation Wednesday afternoon.

"He did an outstanding job, even though it was just part of his job. Law enforcement doesn't get the recognition they deserve a lot and this was our opportunity for us to do that." Representative Tommy Hardin, said.

"Its quite an honor. It's something I have never received before. Something I will always cherish," Stewart, said.

"He's just a good all around deputy," according to Sheriff Russell.

Harvey says he has been with the Love County Sheriff's Office for more than 10 years.
