DURANT, OK - A Durant man is facing charges of first degree murder in the death of his 14-month-old son who doctors say died of a traumatic brain injury last month.

Durant Police say 23-year-old Clay Allison initially told police his infant son, Ethan, had fallen roughly a half foot at his home in the 1600 block of North 9th Street on May 18. The boy suffered a massive skull fracture to the back of his head and was flown to Children's Hospital in Durant. The boy never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead May 21.

When police arrived at Allison's home, they found evidence that someone had been researching head injuries and symptoms of a coma.

On Monday, a state investigator again questioned Allison. He admitted the boy was not hurt in an accidental fall, as he initially told police. Allison said he became ill, and that his son was running in the house in an attempt to get him to play with him. Allison told the agent he became frustrated and forcefully grabbed hold of Ethan’s clothes and pulled the boy off of his feet. Allison described how the back of Ethan’s head hit the tile floor with a lot of force and made a loud noise when the skull impacted the floor.

Allison said the boy then became unresponsive, but was still breathing. He said he researched head injuries on the internet and stayed up most of the night observing Ethan’s condition. Early the next morning, Ethan Allison stopped breathing and his father called 911.

Dr. Michael Cox of Dallas Children’s Hospital told investigators the boy died of a severe, acute traumatic brain injury, consistent with inflicted injuries and child physical abuse.

Allison was arrested Saturday evening without incident on a First Degree Murder/Child Abuse warrant. Police say Clay Allison will be transported to the Bryan County Jail today for his initial appearance. He's being held without bond.
