Dickson School Board approves superintendent's resignation

DICKSON, OK - After more than an hour and half in executive session the the board announced their decision to parents and students in the Dickson auditorium: They accepted Sherry Howe's resignation as superintendent.

Howe's resignation comes after her daughter resigned from her teaching position amid allegations of improper relations with students.

During the meeting the board also approved a severance package for her. They haven't released the terms of that package.

Howe's resignation is effective Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

The board president said they plan on having a special meeting Friday to appoint an interim superintendent.

Parents at the meeting gave us their reaction to the decision.

"Once we heard about it you know we were obviously very excited and glad that they finally decided to do the right thing," said Dickson Schools parent Jason Vaughn.

"It's long overdue, years overdue," said Marla Stewart, who has two children in Dickson Schools.

"We came out to hopefully remove Ms. Howe from her job, which we actually did," said Bridgit Vaughn, another Dickson Schools parent.

The school and Howe's attorney both chose not to comment, and our calls to Howe weren't returned.
