GORDONVILLE, TX-Texomans braved the rain and cold temperatures Saturday to take part in the 7th Annual Polar Bear Plunge.
Dozens jumped into Lake Texoma Saturday afternoon to raise money for the West Grayson County Special Olympics and local volunteer fire departments.

"Very cold, hahaha! But it's cold and then you're like 'oh! I'm numb so it's not cold anymore,'" said Molly Worstell.

This is the seventh time Worstell took part in the Polar Bear Plunge and said she didn't mind the cold because the cause is worth it.

"It's really done for a great cause for Special Olympics because I know that I personally am blessed by having a daughter who doesn't need these funds in her life, but it's good to know that we can help out others that do," she said.

Seeing the support shown by the community for volunteer firefighters, Sherwood Shores fire chief, Don Burcham, also decided to take the plunge.

"Well this is my first time. Linda talked me into it this year but these people came out to support the fire department so I thought I'll take part in it too," he said.

Event coordinator, Linda Mayo, said they decided to go on with the Polar plunge rain or shine to show their dedication to both the Special Olympics and volunteer fire departments.

"It's such a wonderful cause. I mean the Special Olympics and, when you're at the edge of the earth like we are right here at the lake, you depend so much on the local volunteer fire departments. They are the first responders for car accidents, house fires, drownings," she said.

The next Polar Bear Plunge will be February 2013.
