Durant daycare closed indefinitely after director arrested

DURANT, OK -- Wonderland Learning Center in Durant closed its doors Monday after the arrest of the daycare's director on Friday.

Durant Police say the director of Wonderland Learning Center, Krista Lawson Peacock, was arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs Friday.

The report states that Peacock had four children in her car, and when officers stopped her she had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and seemed confused. Peacock reportedly told officers she had taken prescriptions including Soma, Xanax and Hydrocodine.

A representative from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services says Peacock is no longer allowed on the property at 1402 South Ninth Street. So property owner Crystal Thompson had to close the daycare herself--indefinitely.

We asked DHS and Thompson what's next.

"Well I just hate it for the kids that showed up this morning, and their daycare was closed, and I just hope and pray that this can be resolved, and the daycare can be reopened for the kids," Thompson said.

"DHS did not close the facility. We asked for restrictions of a particular staff member while the investigation is ongoing."

A DHS spokesman said they take these situations very seriously and that Peacock is not allowed on the property during the investigation.

Thompson did not say when or if Wonderland would reopen.
