DURANT, OK -- The city will soon take control of a portion of Highway 70.
The stretch of highway between the new highway bypass and the eastern city limit will no longer be part of the highway system after the bypass is complete next year.
That portion currently doubles as the city's Main Street.
City Manager Jim Dunegan said the city will be responsible for maintenance of the road once the bypass is completed.
He said it's part of an agreement they worked out with ODOT when they finalized plans for the bypass.
The city passed an official resolution at a special meeting Friday morning.
