Pregnant woman saves herself and daughter from trailer fire

DURANT, OKLAHOMA -- As the rain started coming down in Durant tonight, Krysti Dailey and Charles Duncan started picking up the mangled, melted pieces of what's left of their home.

"The heat woke me up and when I opened my eyes I saw nothing but black smoke," Dailey said.

Charles lost his job just last week. Last night, he was out buying hinges for the front door, when Krysti called and told him that they lost their home.

"I didn't know if they had gotten out or if they were still in the house. I was just trying to get here to get my wife and my daughter," Duncan said.

Krysti put her 6-month old daughter to sleep in the front room and fell asleep on the couch. She woke up to the heat.

"Raging heat and nothing but black smoke. And I just jumped up and went in there and grabbed my daughter, covered her up with a blanket, got outside and called 911," Dailey said.

Krysti's resilience stems from her childhood. She coped with the same tragic disaster when she was just 12 years old.

"I moved to Oklahoma because we had lost our house in a fire," Dailey said.

The flames haven't blinded their ability to see the bright side.

"I've had three people call me and tell me to put in for an application.. It's crazy. It's a new beginning," Duncan said.

If you'd like to help the family yourself, there's a fund under the name "Cynthia Stafford" at First United Bank.

Another fund has been set up at well at the First United Bank in Durant under the name "Krystie Dailey.
