ECU coach arrested for DUI

The ECU men's basketball coach was arrested Saturday night for allegedly driving drunk.

Court records show Ada police arrested Rodney McConnell for DUI early Sunday morning.

The 36-year-old was expected to make an initial appearance in court this afternoon.

McConnell was named ECU's head basketball coach in July of last year.

McConnell has been suspended from his coaching duties, pending an investigation, according to ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Williams.

“Coach McConnell has been suspended of his coaching duties while the charges against him are being investigated. We are also waiting for the legal process to run its course before taking further action,” said Williams.

Assistant coach Trey Hendon will take over the head coaching duties on an interim basis.
