ADA, OK - The Affordable Care Act is now being implemented after the deadline for individuals to sign up for insurance passed at the end of March.
Now business owners are trying to learn all about the new law and how it will affect them. That's why ECU hosted a workshop explaining the latest details in the legislation.
During Tuesday's workshop, a human resources professional gave an overview of Obamacare and steps employers can take to help them get ready for the reforms.
Some of the steps included forecasting financial impact examining how benefits and compensation relate to business objectives and revising documents explaining benefits..
One business owner at the workshop said making the transition has been a complicated process.
"There's so many rules and so the smaller the business the harder it is to be able to make sure you're doing the right thing for the employee, but yet abiding by all the laws," said Angela Owen, a Sonic franchisee. "And so I think it's a great thing, it's just a bit overwhelming at times."
Small businesses can apply for employee coverage at any time. The next enrollment period for individual coverage beginning in 2015 will start on November 15th of this year.
