Emergency management departments hold severe weather awareness day

Southern Oklahomans had the chance to learn about prepping for severe weather and how to identify it.

Carter, Love and Garvin county emergency management departments held a severe weather and disaster prep day.

Those at the severe weather prep day could get more information on putting together an emergency kit.

The event also offered storm spotter training where volunteers learned how to identify and report storms and tornados.

The Carter county mergency management director said those volunteers can get a closer view in a disaster.

"Having someone out in the field being able to see what's happening at ground level, that helps us with our early warning," said Paul Tucker, the director.

In addition to storm spotting, weather radio programming and fire safety were featured.
