Ex-Fannin Co. jailer facing child sex assault charges

FANNIN COUNTY, TX -- A friend and a former co-worker speak out after a former Fannin County corrections officer is indicted on sexual assault charges.

Dale George, 24, of Howe had served as a lieutenant at the Fannin County Jail. Now, a former corrections officer who worked under him says he was shocked to hear the news that George stands indicted for raping a teenage girl multiple times.

Shane Hibdon says about a year and a half ago, he worked under then-Lt. Dale George at the Fannin County Jail.

"There was a lot of officers who got in trouble for fraternizing with the inmates, the female inmates. He was the one correcting those issues."

News 12 obtained the affidavit of probable cause, which also references a period about a year and a half ago. It states in December of 2012, George raped a 15-year-old girl on three separate occasions. The affidavit states the victim told investigators George had forced her to engage in unprotected oral and sexual intercourse, the incidents occurring at both his and the victim's residences.

Brittany Hibdon, Shane's sister, says she graduated from Honey Grove High School with George. She says he wasn't just a classmate but a friend, and it's hard to believe George would sexually assault anyone.

"Obviously people do change, but from what I knew of him I just don't see it with him. I just don't see it happening."

Brittany says she hopes for the truth in George's case, whatever it may be.

George's arraignment is set for the end of May. His bond for both felony charges is set at $50,000 dollars.

We were not able to reach George for comment.
