Family, friends remember "Big Steve"

DENISON, TX - Friends, family and servicemen and women from all over the state were in Denison today to honor the legacy of the man affectionately known as "Big Steve."

Generous, caring and a gentle giant, those are just a few words that people at this memorial service use to describe Barry Stephens, affectionately known as "Big Steve."

Big Steve was a decorated Marine, receiving a Purple Heart as a member of the United States Marine Corps while serving in the Korean War. He also received the highest level of Marine Corps League, the Distinguished Citizenship Award from Detachment, Department and National Levels.

But here in Texoma, he was known as the driving force behind Toys for Tots. Every year for the past 15 years, he worked tirelessly to get gifts and donations for children across the region. leaving a legacy that will live on beyond his death.
