FANNIN COUNTY, TX -- The Fannin County Children's Center opened its doors to the public today for their annual open house and to recognize Child Abuse Awareness month.
The Children's Center staff say Fannin County saw a 36 percent increase in child abuse rates from last year and they're working to raise awareness and prevention.
They say they also need CASA volunteers.
Right now, they have six children who need advocates.
"We've seen an increase in the number of reports that have gone in and to us that's encouraging because there's so many cases of child abuse that go unreported," said Executive Director, Sandy Barber. "Its good to get people educated and know what to do. So we take that as a sign that our prevention is working."
