LAMAR COUNTY, TX -- An early morning fire has destroyed a Lamar County family's home.

Just after 12:30 this morning, six volunteer fire departments arrived at a home in the 700 block of County Road 14250 just North of Pattonville.

"All the volunteer fire departments have limited resources and manpower, so when departments come together as one big team we can get the job done safely and everyone goes home safely," said Deport Volunteer Fire Chief Shad Day.

They say the house was fully engulfed when they arrived and took firefighters nearly four hours to put out the blaze. Fire officials say a family of four lived in the home and were able to make it out safely.

Chief Day says they were able to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby building.

"Upon arrival the structure was fully involved and at that point there was no need to make entry, there was no way to make entry," said Day. "So we went into defense mode and protected the surrounding structure."

Chief Day says the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the home is a total loss.
