Former Grayson Co. sheriff's deputy pleads guilty to theft

A former Grayson County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty this morning to stealing from the sheriff's office.

Errin Luton was accused of stealing more than $20,000 worth of items - including guns - from evidence.

Luton entered a plea deal in court this morning that will cap his possible sentencing to 6 years in prison. He also faces up to $10,000 in fines.

The crime is classified as a 2nd degree felony.

His sentencing is set for November 30th.

Under the plea agreement, Luton waived his right to appeal.

“Errin Luton hurt a lot of people by what he did,” Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said in a new release. “And I believe he knows that. He has shown appropriate remorse for his actions, he has accepted responsibility, assisted in the recovery of the weapons, and he has made full restitution even before he pled guilty – more than $50,000. But this was a huge violation of the public trust.”
