Former Melissa mayor will plead 'not guilty' to extortion

MELISSA, TEXAS -- Former Melissa mayor David Dorman will plead not guilty to extortion, according to his attorney.

Dorman was indicted by the U.S. Attorney's Office on Thursday.

He's accused of soliciting a $70,000 bribe to annex land from McKinney back in 2007.

The indictment says local real estate broker John Christie paid Dorman to annex land that Christie intended to develop and sell.

A statement from Dallas attorney Barry Sorrells says Dorman has "a long and distinguished history of service to his country and community" and they will "vigorously fight this charge."

Dorman was Melissa's mayor from 1999 to 2009.

He faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you the latest details in the case.
