Former Carter County jailer pleads guilty to contraband charge

ARDMORE, OK - A former Carter County detention officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to bringing contraband into the county jail.

22-year-old John Jacob Pemberton was charged with a misdemeanor and ordered to serve a one year deferred sentence and pay court fees.

Officials said Pemberton was caught giving an inmate cigarettes laced with marijuana by surveillance video on April 23.

By policy, Pemberton was terminated from his job at the jail immediately after.

Sheriff Ken Grace said actions like Pemberton's will not be tolerated.
