SHERMAN, TX -- More than 500 free flu shots were given in Sherman Saturday.
A mass clinic was held at the First United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Grayson County Health Department says it does not typically give out free flu shots, but says getting vaccinated is more important than ever this year. Director John Teel says the illness is widespread in Texas and that the H1N1 virus is especially dangerous even for healthy men and woman in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
"Of the 57 deaths I was referring to several of those have almost been inexplicably young healthy men and women. What they had in common was that they had not been vaccinated this year," Teel said.
Teel says the health department will continue to give flu shots for $20 dollars on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
