Free breast cancer screening clinic in Fannin, Cooke co.'s

SHERMAN, TX -- Texoma women and men can get free breast cancer screenings this week.

The Tri-County Breast Friends has received a grant from Susan G. Komen for a community screening clinic.

They're travelling to Fannin and Cooke Counties Friday to raise awareness and help those in need.

It's available for Grayson, Cooke and Fannin County residents over 40 years or older who are uninsured or under-insured.

"It's important. Its like any other part of your body, you need to protect it and know about it and know how to get the help when you need it. And if you don't get the education then you don't really know what to look for," said Denise Wardell, a public health nurse at the Grayson County Health Department.

They will be at the Red River hospital in Fannin County Friday beginning at 9 am. Then at the North Texas Medical Center in Cooke County around 1.

Screenings like these are funded through the Race for the Cure in Plano and Denton counties. The next race will be in Denton in September.
