GAINESVILLE, TX -- The city of Gainesville honored a councilman, who's stepping down from his post.

"Over those years, I had just a small part in some very good things here in Gainesville. I didn't think I was until tonight, so yeah I guess I will miss it," Vince Rippy said.

Vince Rippy served in the ward 6 seat for six years. He resigned after recently moving out of the city limits. Mayor Jim Goldsworthy says Rippy will be missed and the city thanked him for all his hard work.

The city is taking applications for Rippy's unexpired term -- until the next regular election.
