Gas line break shuts down Denison intersection

DENISON, TX - A busy Denison intersection was closed and dozens of people evacuated after a gas line ruptured.

Denison Assistant Fire Chief Bill Ray says it happened around 4:00 P.M. on Gandy and Austin Avenue while someone was digging up a tree trunk and hit the gas line.

Atmos energy crews got to the scene and were able to shut off the line.

According to Ray, "It's a smaller line that was ruptured possibility of that exploding is real limited this is a safe precaution we put somewhere around the blast zone in case it did rupture sometime."

The roadways are now back open no one was hurt.
