PARIS, TX-- The grace period for the city of Paris' new smoking ordinance is coming to an end, and Paris Police wants to get the word out now before violators have to pay a fine.
Police Chief Bob Hundley says officers are giving out warnings until the 30- day grace period ends on April 23rd. After that, those who violate the ordinance can receive a citation.
The police department has conducted training sessions for their officers to make sure they understand the ordinance.
"We're just trying to do our best to put the word out there to what's going to be acceptable and what's not going to be acceptable," said Police Chief Bob Hundley. "We can all get through this transition together."
The Paris City Council unanimously approved the smoking ordinance at their March 24th meeting.
