LAKE TEXOMA -- A grass fire on a Lake Texoma island sent smoke billowing into the air Sunday afternoon.
The Army Corps of Engineers says since the fire is on an isolated island and structures are not being threatened they are letting the fire burn out itself. Rangers say they will continue to monitor it.
Officials believe the fire may have been started by an abandoned campfire.
The corps reminds lake-goers and campers that fires must be contained in fireplaces, grills and designated facilities. They add that a fire should never be left unattended and should be put out completely before leaving.
