GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- The Grayson County Sheriff's Office says a body was found just outside Sherman city limits Wednesday afternoon. Now they're investigating it as a homicide.

Grayson County Sheriff's Lieutenant Ricky Wheeler says Sherman Police got a call around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon that a body of a man was found in a field just east of Sherman.

Investigators were called to a field off Highway 82 near Baker Ridge Road on Wednesday afternoon after Sherman Police got a call that someone had found a body near an oil pump.

"We came out and notified the Texas Rangers as well," said Lt. Ricky Wheeler. "It's a white male in his fifties and appears to be a homicide."

Wheeler says there were signs of foul play. He says the Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers are investigating about 20 acres of private property where the body was found.

"Earlier we had a helicopter out here doing some aerial photographs for us," Wheeler said. "Right now we're collecting evidence, taking some measurements, and taking evidence right there at the body."

Right now, Wheeler says there are no suspects yet. He says the body has been sent to the medical examiner's office in Dallas for an autopsy.

Wheeler says they have not yet determined how long the body had been in the field or his manner of death

We'll bring you more details as we get them.
