GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- The Grayson County Sheriff's Office says some county employees have been stealing fuel for over a year.
Investigators combed through fuel records at the Precinct One Maintenance Barn and noticed things did not add up. According to deputies, the records show employees were marking that they were filling several county vehicles regularly, but those vehicles are not in service.
Two employees were let go Friday. Investigators say another is still being questioned.
"I would think the way that the fuel is logged in and how you sign out for fuel, things will probably change in that way. Right now, it's just a sheet of paper that you initialed and put how many gallons you got. Things may go more to electronic or digital logs at this point," Lt. Ricky Wheeler said.
The names of the accused employees are not being released. If charged, the crime is theft by a public servant, which is a felony.
