Gun group offers free classes to Okla. teachers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A gun rights group is offering free handgun training courses for Oklahoma teachers and school personnel.

OK2A is a pro-2nd Amendment group that has been lobbying the Oklahoma Legislature in recent years to expand gun rights and was an active supporter of the open carry bill approved by lawmakers last year. The group is funding two separate courses of 25 students each, one in Tulsa and one in Oklahoma City, on Saturday, Feb. 9. A lottery system will be used to select the participants if they have more than 50 teachers and school personnel sign up.

The courses are free, but the participants are responsible for paying their handgun license fee.

A number of bills have been introduced this year that would allow teachers to carry handguns in schools.
