Fire damages Gunter home

GUNTER, TX -- A quick acting neighbor helped keep flames from destroying two Gunter homes this afternoon.

The fire broke out inside a duplex on Cedar street. Gunter fire chief Kevin Price says neighbors heard a pop and saw smoke coming out of the windows.

"I was thinking that if there's someone in the house, get em out , because I didn't know if they were taking naps or if there are children in the house," neighbor Kim Barker said.

"If the neighbors hadn't called us in, with the duplex being so close together, the temperatures and the fact that every volunteer fire department are so shorthanded now a days it could've spread from one duplex to another," fire chief Kevin Price said.

It took four departments just a few minutes to put out the flames. The house was heavily damaged, but no one was hurt.
