HAPPYLAND, OK - The National Weather Service in Norman conducted a storm damage survey in Happyland today and said results show Monday night's damage was most likely an intense microburst and not a tornado. But that is no consolation to the family who lost a loved one last night.

In the aftermath of the storm, family and friends of 51-year-old Michelle Epperly and her husband 54-year-old Rick were left to pick up the pieces.

"She was just a very friendly person, she always waved when she was out mowing her lawn," Neighbor Kay Stone said. "She always loved our dog. She was just very sweet and nice."

Stone and her husband have lived near the Epperly's for more than twenty years.

"I just remember my husband saying it's strong and the winds getting strong and we need to get in the closet and before we could get there it was already over," Stone said.

Authorities said straight-line winds, possibly as high as 100 miles per hour, struck the Epperly's trailer home in Happyland, near Ada, killing Michelle and causing Rick several broken bones, deep cuts and lacerations.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said, "They were inside their home. I am not exactly sure which rooms they were in. From my understanding they were inside the home and it just hit and they didn't even have an opportunity to react."

The Epperly's family did not want to comment on camera but did ask for prayers for Rick, who was flown to OU Medical Center after the storm. A family member said he underwent surgery this afternoon.

"This is a double wide mobile home," Christian said. "It was strapped down, on a good foundation.It literally just took this thing and moved it flipped it over maybe multiple times but it was flipped upside down maybe fifty to seventy-five yards away from where it started."

The Stone's home across the street from the Epperly's also suffered severe damage but they said things can be replaced, the life of their friend and neighbor cannot.

The National Weather Service did not issue a tornado warning for Pontotoc County last night but said straight line winds can be just as deadly.

They call this tragedy a sobering reminder about the power of a thunderstorm.
