PARIS, TX-- First graders at Aiken Elementary in Paris are taking precautions against skin cancer by wearing hats.
Paris High School sophomore Shikha Prakash has been informing residents about skin cancer through her project Operation Save Your Skin.
She teamed up with UV Skins and donated over $5,000 worth of hats to Aiken first graders and their teachers.
Prakash says this program is a great way for children to learn about the importance of protecting their skin from the sun.
"They love going outside and playing and being a child," said Prakash. "One of the main things is to start when you're young and that's why I wanted to start with first grade."
The kids will get to wear their hats at recess and on their next field trip to the zoo.
