Heavy rains cause flash flooding in Grayson Co.

GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas -- Heavy storms called for a flash flood warning for most of the morning hours in parts of Texoma.

In Grayson County, rain beat down so hard, some roadways became dangerous and impassable for drivers.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 75 in Sherman, an accident shut down the left southbound lane for roughly an hour near exit 55.

In low lying areas of the county, rain created large puddles of water that were several inches deep.

In Gunter, parts of State Highway 289 were blocked off by TxDOT workers so cars wouldn't become stuck in the water.

The rain has since lessened, and many of those large puddles have receded.

Grayson County Emergency Management Coordinator Sarah Somers shared a tip with News 12 on how citizens can register to receive emergency alerts.

"A lot of our residents and businesses got a wake up call this morning from Grayson County's emergency notification system this morning -- code red, as its called," she said.

"If you didn't call you can sign up by going to our website (SEE LINK) or for those folks who don't have internet access you can call 903-813-4231 and someone can assist you," she explained.
